Plantar Fasciitis

If you’re dealing with unexplained foot pain or heel pain, you might have Plantar Fasciitis, one of the most common causes of foot discomfort. At The Chiropractic Experience Wellness Center in Lawrence, KS, we specialize in diagnosing and treating Plantar Fasciitis through non-invasive, effective therapies.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia, a ligament spanning the bottom of the foot from the heel to the toes, becomes inflamed. This condition often affects individuals who spend a lot of time on their feet. Pain is typically felt at the heel, but it can occur anywhere along the bottom of the foot. Symptoms may include:

  • Pain or stiffness when taking your first steps in the morning
  • Pain after standing for extended periods
  • Pain following physical activity or climbing stairs
  • Worsening pain as the day progresses
  • A sensation of a deep bruise or stabbing pain in the heel

Because this condition develops gradually, it often starts as a dull ache or tightness before worsening over time.

How is Plantar Fasciitis Diagnosed?

As a musculoskeletal condition, Doctors of Chiropractic are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat Plantar Fasciitis. Diagnosis typically involves a review of your medical history and a clinical examination. Digital X-rays are taken to assess appropriate weightbearing and leg length differentials, and to rule out other conditions, and they may reveal a heel spur caused by chronic tightness in the plantar fascia.  Additionally, a Materialise dynamic force-plate analysis is utilized to measure and assess movement patterns of the feet in real time to determine balance and gait problems.
